Angels are Everywhere
This shrine uses repurposed materials-a wine crate that was destined for the trash bin, broken images from a terra cotta planter, capiz shells from a broken wind chime, a beautiful fan converted to a halo. Angels are believed to be everywhere, whether we see them or not. I tried to convey that by having partial figures coming through the sides of the shrine, and having the shrine itself being an angel. The figure in the center I wanted to make as bright as possible (since those who have seen angels refer to them as “Beings of Light”) while maintaining the integrity of the original artist’s design. I used a ukanite crystal to inspire the color and texture design of the interior of the shrine. I have included the actual crystal I painted from; unakite is believed to be a stone of balance, grounding the self, and bringing the emotions and spirituality together. I used lilies to surround the halo of the large angel; lilies are associated with the archangel Gabriel, the messenger angel.
