Corn Dolly (SOLD)
6″ x 8″
A corn dolly is a ritual doll or poppet used to celebrate the harvest. Celebrations often occurred in August, congruent with the Corn Moon or Barley Moon, and carries associations of rebirth and fertility. There are many traditions and superstitions around corn dolls. Some that I came across are tying money around the corn doll with a green thread (Joss paper, or spirit money, is tied around this doll’s waist) or writing a wish on a piece of birch bark and tying it to the doll for good fortune in the coming year. This doll has been placed on a piece of birch bark that has a blessing requesting abundance. I used a poppy pod to symbolize the power of seeds that corn also represents, and a citrine crystal for prosperity and protection. A texture rubbing of the Flower of Life is in the background. It is believed that the pattern of this symbol contains the root of the structures of language, biology, and laws of physics.
