12” x 9”
Labrys Goddess of Crete, the statue is based on the image in the Knossos mural, 2000 B.C.E. This statue is taken from a palace fresco, showing worshippers surrounding her. Neither naked nor clad, she is dressed in nets and lines of force surround her. Double axes, or labryses, exclaim her active feminine energy and give her the name “Labrys Goddess of Crete. The labrys is also a symbol of the female community of Lesbos, where only the Goddess was worshiped both in nature and in each other. (from Knossos mural, 2000 B.C.E.)
