Meditation Shrine for Kwan Yin (SOLD)
This shrine was created specifically for submission to the 2021 Hambidge Art Auction. I wanted to choose a subject that has been popular in the past and that is relatable to many viewers, so I chose Kwan Yin as my central figure. Amethyst provides a magnetic field that provides positive results to all living beings, and it works to calm and counteract negative energies. It is a highly spiritual stone that deepens our understanding of ourselves and others. Since Kwan Yin is the Goddess of Compassion, this energy seems to be a perfection inclusion.
Carnelian is a stone that can cleanse and invigorate. It is considered to be a stone of feminine energy, fertility, and linked to the power of Isis. Kwan Yin is also associated with fertility and childbearing, invoked by parents for a safe and healthy birth. Carnelian has also been used as a stone for alchemy, like many other chalcedony stones, and its lore encompasses health and good luck. The last crystal I used in this piece is citrine. It is one of the most powerful crystals used to welcome abundance, prosperity, and protection. It does not hold or accumulate negative energy, but transmutes, dissipates, and grounds it. It never needs to be cleared or cleansed, so it is a perfect addition to balance the energy of the other crystals in the shrine. The fourth crystal is unakite, said to be a stone of vision, opening of the third eye, balance, and bringing emotions and spirituality together.
The lily and the rose on the right hand of Kwan Yin are both handmade by other artists, one American and one Ukranian. The dolphin’s colors and veining are visually complementary to the shrine, but it is the dolphin’s loving nature that prompted me to use it in conjunction with the benevolent Kwan Yin. The snake and the fish are both symbols of the unconscious and higher consciousness; states of mind that are useful in meditation and introspection. The fish is carved from tiger’s eye, a crystal known for its protective energies. A skeleton of a lotus leaf is pressed into the background, and the amber vessel symbolizes warmth and receptivity.
