Oshun (SOLD)
The Goddess Oshun appears here rising up from clear blue river or stream water. I used a glass bead gel, silver leaf, and acrylic paint to achieve the effect of water moving around her and streaming over the edge. Cattails are on Oshun’s left, and a fish carved out of bone echoes the oval design of the peacock feather background. An actual peacock feather is slightly behind her on the left. The spiral fossil on her right represents infinite knowledge and infinite time. The seed pod is from a water oak, and a vial of helichrisym flowers represent life everlasting in Oshun’s favorite shade, yellow. Sunflowers, her favorite flower, adorn the top of the shrine, and carved bone beads from Kenya are attached on the ends of the leather hanging string. A citrine point is one of the crystals, representing the fire element of inner earth, where crystals are forged. This piece was a special commission project; the recipient requested that a shrine be created for this particular Orisha.
